a very touching video

My friend Tom had this video on his blog. I thought it was important to share too. It's of San Diego's republican mayor. He had a change of heart in terms of his feelings regarding same-sex marriage. I wish more people could find it in their heart to make this change as well.

where did it go?

So that was the weekend? It sure was over in a flash. Granted, I worked nearly 13 hours on Saturday, but that was it? Sunday was a very good day. I'm felling better, but still have a hacking cough. We did the regular Sunday morning donut run, and relaxed on the couch most of the morning. Then we did some shopping and met Michele for lunch at Max and Erma's. Came home. I watched a movie and Greg watched the Browns game. I caught the last quarter of the game, and pretty much feel like the ending of the game was bulls%^t. The Browns would have won with a field goal, but the Raiders called a time out right before he kicked it, and as a result, it didn't count. When the kicker rekicked it, the ball was blocked and the Browns lost. I hate that I care about this now...actually I don't hate it that much. If Greg can learn the difference between a shallot and an onion, I suppose I can learn to appreciate football. And, I'm starting to do just that.

the crud

I've been battling a cold since Monday. I took a half day off work on Monday and a full day Tuesday. Since then I've been dragging myself in every day. Today, Saturday, I get to work a delightful 12 hour shift. Thankfully, last night, I got some decent rest. Thanks to Greg insisting I take some NyQuil and sending me to bed early. That was after some peaceful futon-time watching the movie Notting Hill, while getting my back rubbed. That made me feel better. Nothing like a good sappy Julia Roberts flick and a back rub to help you relax and feel a bit better. Hopefully today's long work day won't set me back. I really want to get better quickly so that I can fully enjoy our trip next week.

pirate stuff

Today is national talk like a pirate day, which many of my co-workers have reminded me of today. Took a little quiz, here's my pirate name. What's yours? Share it below in the comments section.

My pirate name is:

Mad William Kidd

Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

a better than fair day

Had a wonderful time at the Wayne County Fair on Monday. Greg was able to join us, that's one benefit of the mess he's dealing with at work. He got to go back to work yesterday. Hopefully everything will be back to normal for him at work soon.
Those are my nieces Macy and Rebecca riding one of the many rides at the fair. Besides watching the girls have fun on the rides and seeing the animals, we ate....and we ate. Here's a quick list of some of the fair food delights...fried cheese on a stick (both baby swiss and mozzarella), the walking taco, and of course my favorite from last year...the deep fried twinkie. It wasn't as good this year, but it was still pretty darn tasty.
We also toured the local schools art exhibits. Rebecca won a first prize ribbon for her artwork of a bird. I've including the photo below. And oh yeah, I saw horses do things that I can't ever talk about. I was certainly not born to be a country boy...not by a long shot. Huge thanks to my sister Julie and her husband Matt for having us down again for a fair visit. It's now one of my favorite days of the year to look forward to.

oh, canada

Ok, so I'm starting to get really upset. I love all things Canadian. I even have a shirt to prove it. I could get married there, their streets are really clean, they have a cute way of pronouncing "about." But here's my problem, when you view the map of where visitors to my blog are from, there are no hits from that great country to our north. I mean, come on, those crazy kids in South America love me. So here's my plea for you this week. If you know someone from Canada, please send them the link to my blog. I just gotta get a red dot up there. Thanks and soon!

can't wait for monday

It's another 3 day weekend for me. My plans? Not much...that is, until Monday. It'll be Fair Day. And this year Greg will be joining Julie, Matt, the girls, and Matt's mom. That's right Greg will still be off from work on Monday. The hearing ended Friday, finally. Now we wait... But we get to wait at the Fair...fried twinkie here we come...

that's what she said

to bean, or not to bean

I'm not sure why, but this will be my second reference in a day relating to animals discharging sugary treats. As I was walking past a colleague's desk, I came upon the scene pictured. I found it camera worthy. For some reason, and who knows why, it just makes me smile. I guess in a world full of so much negativity and crap, the idea of a toy cow dropping brown jelly beans just lightens things up a bit. What silly things make you smile?

want that

Came across a web site with some cool t-shirts. Here's the link. And by link, I mean the link to the area where you can buy a gift certificate for me to their store. After all, my birthday is less than 4 months away. Shop early, and shop often, my friends. Oh and yes, I know that some of you have not yet signed my guest book. Well, golly, that would be the best gift of all, and it won't cost you a red cent. So do it....now....please. And yeah, in that t-shirt design to the right, the unicorn is pooping marshmallows. Charming?

you should read this too

Just finished another book, Exile in Guyville: How a Punk Rock Redneck Faggot Texan Moved to West Hollywood and Refused to be Shiny and Happy, by Dave White. Yeah it's a long title for a book that I read in 4 short days. I've been reading Mr. White's blog religiously for about the last 6 months. It's entertaining. He also write movie reviews for Movies.com and writes occasionaly for other magazines like The Advocate. He also writes articles for MSNBC.com. In addition, you can frequently see him and his partner in audience shots when Kathy Griffin is doing stand up on her reality show. Evidently, they use that same shot, no matter where she is actually performing. Doing her show in Michigan, there's Dave. Los Angeles, Dave's there too and wearing the same shirt...scandolous....
Anywho, the books a hoot. It's essentially a journal of his first year of living in West Hollywood after moving from Texas. He's like David Sedaris, but a lot more edgy. My most favorite passage had me rolling, because it described an identical event that Greg and I witnessed in the waiting room on the day Michele had her last surgery. Enjoy this excerpt from the book, and then go out and buy it. It's only $13.95 at Borders.
"Another thing to do in screening rooms is clip your fingernails. This isn't nasty at all. Everyone should do it in public, carrying around little clippers in their pockets attached to their car keys. Just let the loose nail trimmings fly where they may. Dave White will find the move especially enchanting, more so if he's sitting two seats away from you and being hit by the stray bits of your DNA. When Dave White gets up to move away from you, don't bother wondering why. Continue grooming yourself. Look your best!"

dang it

I've been up since 4 am. This is not going to be a very good day. On another note, I had a pretty good long weekend. More details on that later...
